Caleb L. Jones enlisted in the Marine Corps and shipped to recruit training in January of 2005 with Charlie Company, Platoon 1049, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training Private Jones reported to Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California.
In June of 2005 Private Jones reported to Camp Johnson, North Carolina for training as a 3451 Fiscal Budget Technician during which time he was promoted to Private First Class. In August of 2005, Private First Class Jones reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 17 for duty. From February 2006 to February 2007 he deployed to Camp Taqquadam, Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 1 where he was assigned the billet of 9916
Camp Services Marine. During his time in Iraq, Jones was promoted to the ranks of Lance Corporal and Corporal, and applied for the special duty assignment of 8156 Marine Security Guard.
Upon his return from deployment, Corporal Jones was accepeted to the MSG Program, Class 07-05. While awaiting to execute orders, Corporal Jones attended Corporal's Course Professional Military Education at Camp Delmar, California, receiving the "Gung-Ho" award.
In August 2007, Corporal Jones reported for duty at the Marine Security Guard School aboard Camp Quantico, Virginia and graduated in September. In November 2007 he reported to the Embassy Dhaka, Bangladesh for his first post as a Watchstander. During his time in Bangladesh, his detachment supported the embassy staff and U.S. military relief efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Sidr. In July 2009, Corporal Jones moved to his second and final post at Embassy Tegucigalpa, Honduras. During his time in Honduras, he and his detachment supported the embassy staff and Local Guard Force, responding to 14 actual response calls during the year long elections, riots and military coup de tat of former president Manuel Zelaya. Corporal Jones was promoted to the rank of Sergeant February 2010.
After successfully completing the MSG Program in July 2010, Sergeant Jones applied, and was accepted, for a lateral move into the Explosive Ordnance Disposal field. During his initial on the job training, Sergeant Jones attended Sergeant's Course Professional Military Education at Camp Quantico, Virginia receiving the award for highest grade point average. In March 2011, Sergeant Jones attended the Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, graduating in January 2012. Upon completion of the EOD basic school, Sergeant Jones reported to Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Japan.
In March 2013, Sergeant Jones reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona. In March 2014 he was temporarily assigned to 1st Platoon, EOD Company 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group in support deployment to Afghanistan 14.1-14.2 where he served as an EOD team member. During the deployment, Sergeant Jones was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Jones returned from deployment October 2014. In April 2015 he attended Staff Sergeant's Career Course Professional Military Education aboard Camp Pendleton, California.
In February 2016 Staff Sergeant Jones reported to EOD Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In August 2016, he deployed with the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response Africa 16.2, Naval Air Station Sigonella Italy. In August 2017, he again deployed to the Kobani Landing Zone, Syria in support of Task Force 9.7.
In June of 2019, Staff Sergeant Jones transferred to the EOD Advanced Training Center, Air Control Training Squadron, where he currently works. During his time at the EODATC, he has instructed six EOD Supervisor Courses, completed the Combat Marksmanship Coach and Combat Marksmanship Trainer courses and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant October 2020.
