Innovation Showcase: EMP Protected Cable System for Shipboard Topside Electrical Plant

Description

Surprenant EMZ® offers a proven reliability improvement and cost saving upgrade for EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) protection of electrical cables on the deck of US Navy vessels that have this requirement. The Surprenant EMZ® system has been designed to be compatible with hardware and installation guidelines in Navy standards and methods. Based on the well proven Double Optimized Braid Shield configuration, Surprenant EMZ® simplifies the current EMP protection system. Further, the cable can be terminated with simple stuffing tube technology where the packing material is replaced with a conductive medium such as gel impregnated wire rope. The sealing and grounding performance of the fittings have been verified after extensive physical and environmental testing of various sealing techniques under a Navy NSRP panel study.
